PHYSICAL THERAPY
The athletic trainer fellow spends ten weeks working in the Howard Head Sports Medicine Center. This gives the Athletic Trainer the opportunity to enhance their rehabilitation skills while working with the esteemed Howard Head Sports Medicine group. Responsibilities include:
  • assisting with post-operative patients
  • aiding in development of home exercise programs
  • coordination with Howard Head Physical Therapists on patient evaluation and assessment.
During their time in physical therapy, the Athletic Trainer will utilize the most recent rehab techniques while working along side the experienced staff of physical therapists. Each Athletic Trainer will receive mentoring by a physical therapist on topics including rehabilitation principles, post-operative protocols, and functional sports testing. They also assist in developing home exercise programs for non-operative patients, and working with high school to professional level athletes. In addition, bi-monthly in-services are offered during the winter months with topics ranging from bracing to pilates. Thus making this rotation an invaluable part of the fellowship.
